Magazine C – Issue No. 9: Panton Chair

Magazine C is a chair documentary magazine from Korea, created by grandeclip and connected to the publishing world behind Magazine B. Each issue focuses on one iconic chair and explores the design, production, cultural context and lifestyles around it.

Issue No. 9 is dedicated to the Panton Chair — Verner Panton’s radical one-piece plastic chair and one of the defining design icons of the 20th century. Created in 1967 through a combination of experimental form and technical innovation, the chair’s backrest, seat, legs and base flow into one continuous sculptural curve. The issue frames it as “the greatest challenge in the history of chair design” and looks at how new materials, 1960s optimism and industrial experimentation made the Panton Chair possible.
